Oye Productions, owned and operated by Patricio Angulo, specializes in entertainment with a cultural vibe, such as their top-rated Cuban Cigar Rollers. They also book bands inspired by the sounds of Africa, Steel Pans, Flamenco, Mariachi, and Latin-derived music.
Cigar Rollers
Cigar rollers are becoming increasingly popular at weddings and corporate events, as a way to provide a unique form of interaction, and a bit of education. Your guests are sure to be entertained as they watch the cigar roller demonstrate how to make cigars by hand, a craft that is centuries old and originated in Cuba.
Oye Productions
uses cigar rollers who learned their craft in Cuba, home of the world's finest tobaccos and cigars. Oye insures you that their cigar rollers will make your guests the best cigars they have ever smoked, by using the best papers and tobaccos. Your guests will enjoy watching these experts rollers, who have been hey crafting individual exquisite cigars for 45 years. Your guests can even try rolling their own, if they wish!
While Cigar Rollers at weddings may not be for everyone, hiring one would definitely make your big day stand out, by providing an unusual and entertaining activity.
In addition to providing the highest quality cigars, and employees to make your party perfect, Patricio also books bands, dancers, and other forms of entertainment.
How Oye Productions Got its Start
Patricio opened Oye Productions, after spending years learning the business side of being a professional musician. He still actively plays music, and also does bookings for weddings and private events, in between rehearsals, gigs, and song writing.
Patricio holds a BA in Biochemistry and a music minor from UC Berkeley, but loves what he does and enjoys his life in the bay area.
He says that Oye Productionsallows him to continue being a musician, as it's related to the main focus, music. The fact that he is not doing some other random job completely unrelated to his art keeps Patricio quite satisfied.
Why He Loves His Job
When it comes to Brides, Patricio says he enjoys the two extremes: "Brides who know exactly what they want, and those that have no clue, but are open to hearing a myriad of suggestion and recommendations.". He says the brainstorming process is what he finds most enjoyable: "...it’s like solving a puzzle!"
When I asked him, "What has been your most unusual request?" He had this to say, "Last October, a bride had hired a Mexican/Mariachi group (her fiancee was from Mexico) and the father of the bride (paying for the service) insisted the group play a variety of Jewish folk tunes (to appease his side of the family). The request was put in well after confirming through a contract and deposit, but well before the wedding. I did spend lots of time on the phone explaining to him why his request did not make sense with what his daughter had hired (a specialized Mexican music group generally doesn’t play Jewish folk music). Unfortunately he wasn’t having any of it, so I eventually I referred him back to his daughter to discuss with her since I had worked out all of the details with her to begin with (whew!!). It worked!"
Here Patricio explains the pricing:
"For cigars, there is a 75 cigar/2 hour minimum ($800). From there pricing would depend on how many additional packs of 25 are desired, and if cigar bands are to be designed and printed. For music/bands, it depends on the size of the band, sound requirements, etc."
Any advice to brides on how to save money?
"Through Oye Productions, I give discounts on multiple bookings for the same event (e.g., cigar roller and a Cuban trio). If brides can package services like the above example, some cost would be cut.".
Patricio's Hobbies
Besides his job and music, Patricio enjoys BBQ’ing and salsa dancing (though not at the same time – he jokes, "...tummy aches can happen!") His favorite local restaurants include T-Rex BBQ (Berkeley), Ryoko (San Francisco)
Patricio says he also enjoys playing, arranging, and composing music. And Collecting CD’s. As a kid, he often would “perform” for his family by pretending to play piano and sing to tracks such as “Great Balls of Fire”. One thing he wants to do before he dies? Tour the world with a fun musical group.
